Effect of repeated surgical trauma on chemical carcinogenesis.

چکیده
C57BL/6 mice given subcutaneous injections of a tumor-producing dose of 3,4,9,10dibenzpyrene were subjected to either skin wounding or laparotomy. Tumors were induced earlier and progressed more rapidly in the mice subjected to either of the surgical procedures. The mice subjected to laparotomy exhibited the greatest effect of tumorigenesis compared with that in control and skin-wounded mice. The data indicate that surgical trauma acts as a co-carcinogen, augmenting the carcinogenic effect of 3,4,9,10-dibenzpyrene.

Introduction: Penetrating trauma to anterior neck can induce cerebral ischemia due to carotid artery injury. Brain ischemia also can present after surgical carotid repairs. Early diagnosis and suitable treatment modality prevent from permanent neurologic deficit post operatively. Case Report: A 30 years old man with stab wound to zone two left side of neck underwent exploration and penrose i...
متن کاملThe Role of Surgical Treatment in Traumatic Subdural Hygroma: A Pilot Study
Background and Aim: Traumatic subdural hygroma is the accumulation of CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) in subdural space following head trauma. The mass effect of hygroma on brain can impinge on consciousness. There are still many ambiguities on indications of hygroma surgery. This is an 11-year follow-up study which involves the patients suffering traumatic subdural hygroma who underwent surgery. Met...
متن کاملRadiation-induced Non-targeted Effect and Carcinogenesis; Implications in Clinical Radiotherapy
Bystander or non-targeted effect is known to be an interesting phenomenon in radiobiology. The genetic consequences of bystander effect on non-irradiated cells have shown that this phenomenon can be considered as one of the most important factors involved in secondary cancer after exposure to ionizing radiation. Every year, millions of people around the world undergo radiotherapy in order to cu...

Background: The knowledge of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) plays a crucial role in the prognosis of traumatic patients. This study aimed to assess the knowledge of pre-hospital care intensity index of spinal cord trauma amongst EMTs in Ilam, Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted on 98 EMTs based on census sampling method. Data were collected using a research...
متن کاملImmunological prophylaxis of chemical carcinogenesis in mice. I. Effect of immunization with insoluble lipoprotein of tumor cells on methylcholanthrene carcinogenesis.
Attempts were made to prevent methylcholanthrene tumorigenesis in mice by immunization with the insoluble lipoprotein of methylcholanthrene-induced sarcomas of the same strain of mice. Swiss/Mk mice were intensively immunized with the insoluble lipoprotein fraction extracted by the Thomas method or with the supernatant fraction of isogenic methylcholanthrene-induced tumor cells, or normal cells...
